Republicans Block Movement of Detroit Lighting Bill
LANSING- Senate Democratic Floor Leader Tupac A. Hunter (D-Detroit) made a motion on the Senate floor today to bring the Detroit Public Lighting legislation to a vote. The Republican majority quickly gaveled down the motion, once again blocking passage of the bills. This is the third time Republican lawmakers have failed to support legislation negotiated between Governor Snyder and Mayor Dave Bing.
“My attempts to make good on a commitment between Governor Snyder and Mayor Bing were thwarted by Senator Richardville's inaction, not the unwillingness of the Democratic Caucus, in particular Detroit Legislators, to arise at a bipartisan agreement,” said Senator Hunter. “It is reprehensible that this body would play games with legislation that is needed to address such a vital city service for our neighborhoods.”
